On the night of May 24 (starting at 8:30 p.m. on May 23), the Russian forces launched a strike on Ukraine using 14 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from the areas of Taganrog, Yeisk, Bryansk (Russia) and the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, and Zaporizhzhia regions were targeted.

Throughout the night, the Russian forces also launched an attack using 250 Shahed-type strike drones and various types of decoy drones from the directions of Bryansk, Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), as well as from occupied Crimea.

The main direction of the attack was the capital of Ukraine — the city of Kyiv.

The air assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units and drone systems, as well as mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

As of 8:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defense shot down 6 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles (over Kyiv) and neutralized 245 Shahed-type and other drones in the east, north, south, and center of the country.

128 were shot down by kinetic air defense means

117 were suppressed or lost due to electronic warfare (with no harmful consequences)

As a result of the attack, Kyiv region, Dnipropetrovsk region, Odessa region, Kharkiv region, Donetsk region, and Zaporizhzhia suffered damage.
