SSU and National Police Prevent New Attempts to Illegally Sell Weapons and Ammunition Across Ukraine

Military counterintelligence of the SSU and the National Police have thwarted new attempts to illegally sell weapons and ammunition in various regions of Ukraine.

As a result of comprehensive operations, 17 individuals were detained for attempting to sell weapons and explosives found at former battle sites to criminal groups.

Seized items include Russian AK-12 rifles, explosives, flamethrowers, as well as an arsenal of grenades and anti-tank mines.

 

 

Key arrests included:

  • In Zaporizhzhia, a repeat offender was caught trying to sell over 11 kg of TNT and a flamethrower.
  • In Bukovina, a criminal group was neutralized for smuggling weapons from former front-line areas and seeking clients for sales.
  • 2 contract soldiers were arrested for illegally transporting weapons to the western region.
  • In Volyn, a 35-year-old local was detained for attempting to sell an AK-47.
  • In Chernihiv, a local contract soldier was found hiding weapons in the wall of his house for future sale.
  • In Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, four more individuals were arrested for selling grenades, anti-tank mines, and ammunition.
  • In Kyiv, a contract soldier was detained for seeking buyers for a large-caliber machine gun and a hand grenade launcher.
  • In Kharkiv, the SBU uncovered seven more underground arms dealers with a stockpile of Russian assault rifles and grenades.

 

The suspects have been informed of charges under Article 263, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives).

The offenders face up to 7 years in prison.
