The Security Service of Ukraine detained two more agents of the Russian military intelligence (better known as the GRU) who were coordinating enemy airstrikes on Ukraine. The perpetrators were preparing a new series of missile and drone attacks by Russia on Kyiv and Odessa.

According to case materials, the suspects were to identify and relay the locations of the Defense Forces to the Russian forces. The agents also monitored the aftermath of enemy strikes on civilian infrastructure to adjust subsequent attacks on Ukrainian cities.

It was reported that both agents acted separately but had a single shared handler, whose identity has already been established by SSU cyber specialists.

To gather intelligence, the suspects visited locations, photographed potential targets, and recorded their coordinates.

In Kyiv, a 31-year-old man from occupied Melitopol was detained; the Russian GRU had “assigned” him to spy in the Ukrainian capital. Under GRU instructions, he was to identify and relay the locations of Defense Forces’ repair bases. Additionally, he monitored the peak times of civilian gatherings near recruitment centers in the Kyiv region, which the enemy planned to target from the air.

In Odessa, a former servicewoman, who after leaving the military began collaborating with the Russian GRU, was exposed. In exchange for money from the Russian forces, she provided the coordinates of the bases of naval units, border guards, and the National Guard in the port city. However, the investigation revealed that she never received the promised payment from Russia.

SSU investigators have charged both suspects under Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed during martial law).

The perpetrators remain in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
