The Counterintelligence Service of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a bloody terrorist attack planned by Russian intelligence services in the Kyiv region. As a result of the special operation, four members of a Russian spy network were arrested. They were preparing to plant explosives at the entrance of a building where one of the Defense Forces units is stationed.
According to the investigation, the homemade explosive device was hidden in a tactical backpack, which a minor Russian intelligence agent was supposed to deliver to the restricted facility, disguised in Ukrainian military uniform. The Russian forces were tracking his movement online and planned to detonate the device as soon as the young man entered the building.
At the same time, the agent, who was meant to be blown up, was unaware of the deadly trap. He thought the explosives would be detonated after he left the building.
The Counterintelligence Service of the SSU uncovered the Russian plans in advance and took a range of measures to prevent the attack. As a result, the minor terrorist and three other agents involved in the planning of this crime were arrested.
The investigation revealed that the Russian intelligence services intended for this terrorist attack to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine and create the appearance of internal conflict within the Defense Forces, where one "soldier" would blow up others as a sign of protest.
According to the investigation, all four individuals acted separately, but they had a common handler from Russia.
One of the agents turned out to be a 16-year-old student from the Kirovohrad region. He received coordinates from the occupiers for a cache, where he retrieved explosives and military uniform.
Another network member, a 19-year-old man, reportedly transported the explosives and military uniform from the "initial cache" to another stash, where the 16-year-old agent retrieved them.
The "initial cache" was arranged by two residents of the Vinnytsia region. Following video instructions from a Russian intelligence representative, they assembled the explosive device and concealed it in the designated location.
During searches of the arrested individuals, mobile phones containing evidence of their collaboration with the aggressor were seized. Additionally, one of the agents had 1.5 kg of explosive mixture intended for making a homemade weapon.
The detainees are in custody without the possibility of bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
