Switzerland has decided to impose restrictions against Russia in line with the 14th package of EU sanctions.
The Swiss government announced this on August 21, stating that the Federal Council had decided to implement further measures from the 14th EU sanctions package against Russia.
The government reminded that the 14th EU sanctions package against Russia includes clarifications regarding the ban on importing Russian diamonds.
These measures will take effect on August 27. As of July 9, Switzerland had already included 69 individuals and 47 entities in its sanctions list.
The EU approved the 14th sanctions package against Russia on June 24. Specifically, the measures targeted the export of Russian LNG (liquefied natural gas).
The sanctions prohibit the transshipment of LNG to the EU for further shipment to third countries. However, there was no ban on direct imports into EU countries.
Additionally, EU companies operating outside Russia are prohibited from connecting to the Russian SWIFT alternative - the Financial Messaging System (SPFB).
