Russia has redeployed about 50,000 troops to the Kursk region from other directions, reported the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in a documentary film during a telethon.

According to Syrskyi, this has weakened Russian forces in other directions, including Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Kramatorsk.

“This has certainly eased our conditions for conducting defensive operations,” Syrskyi added.

On August 6, 2024, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces entered the territory of the Kursk region in Russia. Since then, fighting has continued in the region. The Ukrainian army claims control over dozens of settlements, including the district center, the city of Sudzha. Russian authorities either deny this information or do not comment on it.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russia had planned a new offensive against Ukraine from the Kursk region before the start of the Defense Forces' operation in this Russian region, and Ukrainian forces prevented this.

We remind you that the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region of Russia began in the morning on August 6, 2024. Since then, the operation of Ukraine's Defense Forces has continued to this day.

On August 12, Ukraine officially confirmed the presence of its troops in the Kursk region.

On October 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Kursk operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is “an important stage of the war,” as with sufficient support from partners, Ukraine will be able to pressure Russia “in exactly the way that makes Russia feel that the war will give them nothing.” Zelensky also added that the Kursk operation has made one of the largest contributions to the exchange fund for the release of Ukrainians from captivity.
