The security of the airspace of Slovakia will not be territorially divided between the Czech Republic and Poland, but will be carried out simultaneously.
The spokeswoman of the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia, Martina Koval Kakaschykova, said that on August 27, documents on the joint protection of the airspace of Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic would be signed from September this year.
"Polish and Slovak fighter jets will take off from bases located in both countries, and after the flight will return to their bases in Poland and the Czech Republic," Koval Kakaschykova told TASR. If necessary, Polish or Czech planes will be able to land at reserve airports in Slovakia.
According to the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia, the protection of Slovakia's airspace will not be territorially divided between the Czech Republic and Poland but will be carried out simultaneously. That is why, depending on the specific situation, the tasks will be performed either by the Czech or the Polish side.
The Czech Republic and Poland will guard Slovak skies until the new F-16 fighter jets ordered by Slovakia will be delivered, which will replace the current MiG-29 fighters. Most likely, the last flights of Slovak MiGs will take place near Bratislava during the Slovak International Aviation Days (SIAF), which are scheduled for August 27 and 28.
