The European Union has imposed new sanctions on Iran, accusing it of providing military assistance to Russia and armed groups in the Middle East. The sanctions will target ports and ships involved in the transportation of Iranian missiles and drones, as reported by EU Council.
According to the EU statement, the export and transfer of components from the EU used in the creation of Iranian missiles and drones are now prohibited.
Specifically, the sanctions concern the Amirabad and Anzali ports on the Caspian Sea, which are believed to be used for the supply of Iranian drones and missiles to Russia.
Also sanctioned is the National Iranian Shipping Line (IRISL) and its head Mohammad Reza Hiabani.
The Council is also listing three Russian shipping companies - MG Flot, VTS Broker and Arapax- whose vessels are involved in transporting Iranian-made weapons and ammunition, including UAV components, across the Caspian Sea to resupply Russian troops fighting in Ukraine.
On October 14, the EU already imposed sanctions on seven individuals and seven Iranian organizations responsible for transferring missiles and drones to Russia, including the airlines Saha Airlines, Mahan Air, and Iran Air, as well as several Iranian officials.
