The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced that he will propose to the member states of the bloc to create a assistance fund for Ukraine for the development of drones and artificial intelligence.
"I am going to propose to the member states a fund to assist Ukraine in developing new tools of this war: drones and artificial intelligence," he said.
Borrell noted that the war will be fought primarily through communication and targeting systems.
"These are small drones, with a flight range of 20 kilometers, carrying a two-kilogram explosive charge, they cost very little and are no longer needed to destroy a tank," he emphasized.
The head of EU diplomacy added that thanks to drones, everything is now visible on the front lines.
"Tanks are used as static artillery, they do not go out into the open. Either a drone falls on them, or a mine is placed under them. Everything is visible on the battlefield," he said.
At the same time, he noted that it is necessary to develop technologies based on a different type of warfare.
"In the face of mass attacks by small drones, similar to swarms of wasps, the defensive alternative is to jam the communication system. If you can control the spectrum, the drone is useless. We must carry classical ammunition and support it in modern aspects of warfare, such as artificial intelligence. We need to develop technologies based on a different type of warfare. And they are doing it, with great skill so far, but they need more," he emphasized.
