The poster featuring Kyiv by Sumy illustrator Anton Firsik was printed in the 43rd issue of the German design magazine Slanted. He shared this on his Instagram page.
According to Anton, in early 2023, curator Olga Protasova of the Kyiv Poster Project invited him to participate in this project as part of Kyiv Design Week. The illustrator was tasked with creating a poster combining the word "Kyiv" with his memories, feelings, and thoughts about the capital. Fourteen artists participated in the project, including Anton.
In the spring, thanks to the curatorship of Kyiv Design Week in Zurich by Anastasiia Biletska, the printed poster of Kyiv made its way to the Museum of Design in Zurich, Switzerland, and became part of one of the world's largest poster collections, says Anton.
At the same time, Olga Protasova submitted an application to the Slanted magazine. Thus, the new issue dedicated to Ukraine was released in early May. Due to limited space, only ten works by Ukrainian illustrators, including Anton's, made it into the magazine. He used the Kyiv Type Font by Sumy-based designer Dmytro Rastvortsev, as one of the project's ideas was to use fonts by Ukrainian authors.
Also featured in this issue is Sumy-based designer Mykhailo Rafailyk. His work was printed in the font category of the magazine. Depicto is a pixel font with asymmetrical serifs. Mykhailo developed it in two styles: Mono (regular) and Mosaic (colorful).
Slanted is a German magazine about design and typography from the eponymous publishing house. Each issue explores various aspects of design through visual works and interviews with artists.
The 43rd issue has three different covers, which according to Slanted's rules are sent to buyers randomly.
