Prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General have referred an indictment to the court regarding the director of the Russian propaganda television channel "Russia Today" for acts of public incitement to genocide (Part 2 of Article 442 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Office of the Prosecutor General has reported that the investigation revealed that the accused, during one of the broadcasts of his own authored program, publicly called for the drowning and burning of Ukrainian children.
This segment was aired on Russia Today television broadcasts, the propagandist's personal YouTube channel, and a Telegram channel, which together have several hundred thousand subscribers.
The accused aims to incite the Russian audience against Ukrainians and calls for the physical destruction of the Ukrainian people.
According to the conclusions of the expertise, these statements constitute public incitement to the genocide of Ukrainians.
Previously, the director of the Russian propaganda television channel Russia Today was found guilty under the public indictment of the Office of the Prosecutor General for incitement to genocide and forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order (Part 2 of Article 442, Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to the maximum possible penalty under the provisions of the law, which is 5 years of imprisonment with property confiscation.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal case was conducted by the investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
