On the Dnipro Riverfront, Russian forces are continuously increasing the number of kamikaze drone strikes on Kherson and surrounding settlements on the right bank of the Dnipro River. This was reported by spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, in a TV broadcast.
"The enemy is constantly increasing both the number of kamikaze drone strikes and artillery and rocket fire not only on Kherson but also on adjacent settlements on the right bank of the Dnipro," said Voloshyn.
According to the spokesperson, the Russian forces are also actively using assault and army aviation, conducting strikes with unguided aerial rockets on the right bank.
"The enemy has practically turned it into a training center for their FPV drone pilots, training their pilots on Ukrainian civilians and on our objects located on the right bank," Voloshyn emphasized.
He noted that the Russian forces continue their attempts and do not stop trying to capture certain footholds in the island zones on the right bank, making the situation in the Dnipro and Kherson directions quite difficult.
"The enemy is not conducting as many actions as they did in the fall, but they are still carrying out reconnaissance and search operations, trying to cross the Dnipro and secure a foothold on the right bank or one of the nearby islands. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are preventing these attempts, targeting and destroying groups attempting to cross while still on their bank. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are not allowing the Russians to cross or reach the right bank at all, and there have been many such cases," the spokesperson explained.
Also Vladyslav Voloshyn mentioned that the Russian forces are trying to advance as far as possible in the Zaporizhzhia region, even attempting to reach the administrative borders.
"The military-political leadership of the Russian Federation has never concealed that... the Zaporizhzhia region is within their geopolitical interests. Therefore, it can be said that before any negotiation processes regarding a ceasefire, peace agreements, or the establishment of various regimes, the Russians want to gain as much ground as possible, to advance as far as they can in the Zaporizhzhia region, and if possible, even reach the administrative borders of the region," said Voloshyn.
He emphasized that this is one of the reasons why the situation in southern Ukraine, particularly on the Zaporizhzhia fronts, is beginning to intensify. The occupiers have also amassed a certain amount of forces and resources on these fronts to conduct assault actions with small infantry groups.
"The tactic of using these small groups has brought certain results for Russia on other fronts, so they will attempt to apply this creeping offensive tactic—small infantry assaults—on the Zaporizhzhia fronts as well. We're talking about the Orikhiv and Hulyaipole directions. Since the beginning of spring, the number of such assault actions has significantly increased," Voloshyn added.
