The jury of the British Guild of Picture Editors selected 20 best photographs "from among many submitted works" this year, and now the public voting begins. IMAGO, a photo service based in Berlin, is a partner of the guild for the contest, as stated on the guild's website.
Voting will continue until 23:59 on September 5th. The winner will be announced on October 16, 2023. Additionally, among the voters, a 500 euro voucher from an international luxury hotel chain will be raffled. The winner of the voucher will be revealed on the same date, October 16.
The three selected photos are dedicated to the Russo-Ukrainian full-scale war.
One of them was taken by military photographer Julian Simmonds. In the photo taken on February 25, 2022, Ukrainian soldiers are resting in a trench in the north of Kharkiv in between Russian shelling.
The second entry is by Maya Smeykovska, showing a refugee girl from Ukraine who arrived by train in PrzemyÅl in March 2022.
The third photo is by Jack Hill, depicting a Ukrainian injured civilian woman in a Kharkiv hospital on March 14, 2022.
