Director Philip Sotnychenko's debut full-length feature film has been nominated for one of the most prestigious film awards in the world, the European Film Academy Award. The film 'La Palisiada' will compete for victory in the 'Discovery of the Year - FIPRESCI Prize' category.
The film by the 34-year-old director Philip Sotnychenko is inspired by the aesthetics of the 80s and 90s. A police detective and a forensic psychiatrist investigate the murder of their colleague. Their work is complicated by an unexpected love triangle, turbulent changes in the country, and overall uncertainty about the future. Meanwhile, there are only 5 months left until the moratorium on the death penalty is lifted.
"It is very gratifying to be nominated in the 'Discovery of the Year' category from Ukraine for the European Film Academy," commented Valeria Sochivets, the film's producer. "This is an important event not only for our team but also for the country, as 'La Palisade' is recognized as one of the six best debut films from around the world."
'La Palisiada' is one of the most talked-about Ukrainian films of the year. Its world premiere took place at the Rotterdam Film Festival, where the film received an award from the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) and also won the 'Best Full-Length Film' category at the 28th Vilnius International Film Festival. The winners of the European Film Academy Awards will be announced on December 9 at the 36th European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin.
The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on January 11, 2024."
