US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the United States is, for the first time, transferring funds confiscated from sanctioned Russian oligarchs to Ukraine.
This statement during a press conference with the Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.
"In addition to Ukraine's security needs, we are, for the first time, transferring assets confiscated from Russian oligarchs who have fallen under sanctions to Ukraine, which will now be used to support Ukrainian military veterans. Those who enabled Putin's aggressive war must pay for it," Blinken said.
According to the US Department of State's announcement regarding aid to Ukraine, $5.4 million in confiscated assets from oligarchs will be allocated to support the reintegration and rehabilitation of veterans.
US assistance also includes $175 million, as announced by the Pentagon on Wednesday. This includes components of air defense systems, rockets for HIMARS, ammunition, and communication systems.
$100 million will be used for long-term military needs, $90.5 million for humanitarian demining, and $300 million to support law enforcement efforts in restoring and maintaining order in liberated territories, including cities and towns under continuous shelling from Russia.
$206 million will be directed towards humanitarian aid, including food, water, and shelter for internally displaced persons in Ukraine, as well as refugees abroad.
$203 million will support transparency and accountability in institutions, strengthen key anti-corruption reforms, rule of law, and justice, as well as investigations into war crimes committed by Russia.
As previously reported, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Washington will provide over a billion dollars in aid to Ukraine.
Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on an official visit on Wednesday morning.
