Ukraine tested the Starlink Direct to Cell technology, which provides direct satellite communication without antennas or additional equipment, using only 4G and SIM cards.
This was reported by Prime Minister Yuliya Svyrydenko on Telegram.
“Ukraine became one of the first countries in the world where Starlink Direct to Cell technology started working — direct communication via satellite without antennas or extra equipment, requiring only 4G and a SIM card. The test was conducted by First Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov. By autumn 2025, Kyivstar plans to launch the first phase — the ability to send SMS from Ukrainian-controlled territory,” she wrote.
Svyrydenko added that during the war, when the enemy deliberately targets energy and communication infrastructure and some communities risk information isolation, such technology is a matter of security.
