Ukraine has successfully rescued eight more children from Russian-occupied territories in Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
"Today, we have incredibly good news: eight Ukrainian children are returning home and reuniting with their families. Parents and guardians reached out to the Ombudsman's Office for help in bringing their children back to Ukraine. Now, we see the result—our institution’s staff, along with relatives, have welcomed the children home," Lubinets stated.
Among the rescued are siblings who had been separated from their families due to the war and occupation, with some even losing their parents.
Additionally, a civilian woman, who had been illegally detained and sentenced by Russian forces in occupied Ukraine, was finally reunited with her two sons after a long separation. The children had been under their grandmother’s care but are now back with their mother.
Lubinets emphasized that this rescue was carried out as part of Ukraine's presidential initiative Bring Kids Back UA, with Qatar acting as a mediator in the process.
"The return of children to Ukraine is a complex operation involving negotiations, logistics, document processing, and ongoing communication with families. But our priority is to bring our citizens home, and we will continue working toward that goal!" he added.
