Ukraine launches “112” emergency app that works without mobile coverage

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has developed an official state mobile app for rapid contact with all emergency services, called “112 Ukraine.” In a critical situation, Ukrainians can call through the app, and a 112 operator will assess the situation and dispatch rescuers, police, medical personnel, and/or gas service to the scene, according to the MIA press service.

The “112 Ukraine” app works even when there is no mobile signal, and its very simple interface allows users to request help with a single tap in any emergency. Authorization is required before use.

The MIA noted that the app can be especially useful:

  • In basements or shelters with Wi-Fi but no mobile signal;
  • In areas with weak or unstable coverage;
  • During network outages or cellular disruptions.

The app’s functionality will be expanded soon, including the option to make calls using sign language.

“All personal data is protected. The app complies with state cybersecurity standards, and data is used solely for processing emergency calls,” the MIA explained.

The app is available for iOS and Android.
