The government has approved a draft agreement between Ukraine and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) regarding Ukraine’s accession to the OECD Committee on Regional Development Policy.

This was reported by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development.

“The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft agreement (in the form of an exchange of letters) between the Government of Ukraine and the OECD on joining the OECD Committee on Regional Development Policy and its subsidiary bodies. This opens up new opportunities for exchanging best European practices in regional development, strengthening multi-level governance, and coordinating policies effectively for sustainable recovery,” the statement reads.

The OECD is an international organization currently composed of 38 member countries, with 70 additional countries holding partner status. Its work focuses on strengthening and improving the efficiency of member economies, enhancing socio-economic conditions and employment, and supporting sustainable economic growth in both developed and developing countries.

The Ministry notes that participant status will allow Ukraine to take part in committee and subsidiary body meetings and gain access to the positive experiences of OECD member states in regional development policy, particularly regarding governance improvement to establish effective mechanisms for coordinated regional policy, ensuring integrity, transparency, and accountability for the efficient use of resources, and building public trust in authorities.

With expert support from the OECD, Ukraine is currently developing an updated methodology for strategic regional development planning for 2028–2034, based on the principles of evidence-based decision-making, effectiveness, and multi-level coordination.
