The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine continues implementing Resilience Plans, one of the key areas of which is ensuring reliable water supply for communities.
Currently, the implementation of 29 projects has already begun in 14 regions of Ukraine.
Water supply is a basic human need and one of the key elements of community resilience. The implementation of these projects will provide more reliable and safer water supply for more than 10 million Ukrainians.
The projects include:
- construction and modernization of nearly 900 kilometers of water pipelines;
- installation of more than 4,000 units of modern equipment, creating over 45 MW of additional capacity;
- all pumping equipment installed as part of the 29 projects will be capable of moving 3–4 million cubic meters of water per day.
"We are currently working on transitioning from a single-source water supply model to a resilient and redundant system. This includes protecting critical facilities, creating backup water intake points, developing autonomous water supply systems, and ensuring backup power for water utilities. We are building systems capable of operating under any challenges. Resilient water supply means people’s safety, stable operation of hospitals, schools, businesses, and entire communities," said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.
The development of a modern, redundant, and energy-independent water supply system is one of the priorities of state recovery policy, aimed at increasing the resilience of communities amid the full-scale war and preparing for the next winter.
