Russia's deliberate targeting of the Ukrainian civilian population and energy networks is a war crime.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated this after a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Spoke today with Zelensky following the indiscriminate missile attacks on Ukraine last night. Russiaâs deliberate targeting of civilians and energy grid is a war crime. It strengthens our common resolve to continue progress in Ukraineâs reform efforts on their EU path," said Ursula von der Leyen.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on his Twitter:
"During a call with Ursula von der Leyen, we condemned todayâs Russiaâs missile attacks. Welcomed new package of sanctions and agreed on further pressure on Russian aggressor. Discussed progress in implementation of European Commission recommendations."
