Vodafone has begun modernizing the telecom infrastructure of the fixed-line operator "FRINET," which became part of the Vodafone group in August 2023. The active phase of building the GPON network is underway in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Dnipro. Over 500 buildings—about 35,000 households—in these cities are already connected to the energy-efficient network.
The new technology will provide customers with:
- Reliability during blackouts: The internet will work for up to 72 hours even during long power outages.
- Incredible speed: Data transmission over GPON reaches 1 Gbps (≈1000 Mbps), which is 10 times faster than standard internet. This speed allows for downloading HD movies or modern games in just a few minutes.
- Multiple device connectivity: High bandwidth ensures stable performance for numerous devices simultaneously.
- Affordability: The service starts at 125 UAH/month, enabling users to enjoy quality internet while saving money.
Serhiy Skrypnikov, CEO of "FRINET," emphasized the company's commitment to implementing new technologies: "The combination of FRINET's many years of experience in fixed internet and Vodafone's ability to invest in advanced PON solutions helps develop reliable and affordable connectivity in Ukraine. We have already made energy-efficient internet available to over 1.2 million households. Our goal is to ensure stable internet for every customer, which will reliably function even under challenging energy conditions."
The provider's specialists continue to actively build and put into operation new GPON zones, and by the end of 2025, they plan to modernize the network in over 2,200 multi-story buildings in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Dnipro.
In 2024, Vodafone modernized the Vega subsidiary's network to GPON in 155 buildings in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa, and built a new GPON network in over 4,000 buildings across its operating cities.
