Russia launches widespread attacks across Ukraine, killing and injuring civilians

On January 19–20, Russian forces carried out a series of strikes across Ukraine, targeting cities, towns, and critical infrastructure, leaving multiple casualties and widespread damage.

In Kyiv, one person was hospitalized following an attack in the Dnipro district. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, several non-residential buildings were damaged, including a primary school, though no fire occurred. Police reported that the strike also affected a high-rise building, causing injuries to a 59-year-old woman and damaging about 20 parked cars. In the Darnytskyi and Desnianskyi districts, windows, fences, and cemetery areas were hit, though no casualties were reported. Emergency services continue to assess and document the damage.

In Sumy region, nearly 60 attacks hit 22 settlements across 11 territorial communities. The heaviest strikes were reported in Sumy and Shostka districts, with the use of artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, private cars, schools, administrative buildings, and non-residential structures were damaged across multiple communities, including Mykolaivska, Verkhniosyrovatka, Hlukhiv, Bilopillia, Shalyhyne, and Seredyno-Buda.

In Poltava, Russian shelling targeted an industrial facility, causing fires that were extinguished promptly with the help of two Ukrzaliznytsia fire trains.

 

 

In Vinnytsia, a critical infrastructure facility was damaged during overnight strikes, but no casualties were reported, according to the regional administration.

In Donetsk region, two civilians were killed on January 19—one in Sloviansk and another in Kostiantynivka. Five others were injured. The region has now recorded 3,979 deaths and 8,797 injuries due to Russian attacks, excluding Mariupol and Volnovakha.

In the Bucha district of Kyiv region, a 50-year-old man was killed during a Russian strike, and two gas stations were damaged.

Kherson region saw four people injured from drone attacks, airstrikes, and artillery shelling across numerous settlements, including Kherson city, Zolota Balka, Bilozerka, Stepne, and Urozhayne. Damage included two apartment buildings, four private houses, an administrative building, a gas pipeline, a private garage, and multiple vehicles.

Dnipro and the surrounding Dnipropetrovsk region were also targeted. Two women were injured in nighttime attacks, with fires breaking out and extensive damage to a business, residential buildings, infrastructure, and vehicles. Russian shelling affected the Novooleksandrivka and Pokrovska communities, and air defense units shot down 40 drones in the region. A 44-year-old man was hospitalized in moderate condition after a missile strike in the Petropavlivska community.

 

 

In Rivne, a morning strike damaged critical infrastructure, leaving over 10,000 residents without electricity. Several residential buildings had windows blown out, and parked cars were damaged. No injuries were reported.

Ukrainian authorities, including emergency services, police, and regional administrations, continue to work on evacuation, damage assessment, and restoration of essential services.
