The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) military counterintelligence has neutralized an FSB agent group that was "hunting" Ukrainian fighter jets and combat helicopters.
During a special operation near a military airfield, two Russian agents were caught red-handed photographing a domestic F-16 fighter jet.
The agents, aged 22 and 21, were residents of Kremenchuk recruited by an FSB operative, whose identity has been established by the SSU.
Their mission was to gather precise coordinates of primary and reserve airfields and aviation infrastructure across Ukraine to enable Russian missile and drone strikes. The agents also had to compile detailed reports with photos of the equipment located at these sites.
To carry out this mission, they planned to travel across five Ukrainian regions by bus, renting housing near potential targets to spy and document their findings.
The SSU detected and documented their activity early, preventing any effective reconnaissance efforts. The agents were apprehended while photographing F-16 fighter jets.
Comprehensive measures were also taken by the SSU to secure key Defense Force locations.
Upon their arrest, mobile phones with evidence of their cooperation with the Russian forces were seized.
The suspects have been charged under Article 111, Part 2, and Article 28, Part 2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (treason committed by a group in wartime). They are in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
