Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained three Russian agents who were gathering coordinates for Russian forces’ air strikes on Ukraine.
One of the suspects was a 46-year-old resident of the town of Donets in the Kharkiv region. According to case materials, the woman worked simultaneously for two Russian intelligence agencies — the Russian military intelligence (GRU) and the FSB.
Under the Russian instructions, the suspect attempted to locate and transmit the positions of anti-aircraft missile systems that protect the skies of the frontline region.
For the Russians, this was “target No. 1,” which they hoped to hit using combined attacks involving drones, guided bombs, and ballistic missiles.
After this, the Russian forces planned to carry out targeted strikes on local gas distribution stations to destroy critical infrastructure before the heating season began.
Two more Russian fire spotters were detained in Kyiv. Among them was a 32-year-old IT specialist who, on orders from the FSB, was to direct Russian missiles at radar stations of Ukraine’s air defense.
Additionally, the agent tried to identify the bases of mobile fire groups defending the region’s airspace.
The other suspect was a local unemployed woman who coordinated drone attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces’ repair bases.
To gather coordinates for fire strikes, the suspects either scouted the area or extracted information from acquaintances during everyday conversations.
During searches of all three detainees, phones were seized from which they communicated with Russian intelligence officers.
The offenders are held in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
