The European Commission has approved joint weapons purchases by EU member states for the first time in history, including missiles and ammunition, part of which will go to support Ukraine.
According to the European Commission's press service, five projects will receive EU funding under the European Defence Industry Reinforcement through Common Procurement Act (EDIRPA). Each project will receive €60 million in EU support.
The total value of these projects exceeds €11 billion and includes the participation of 20 EU member states.
Two projects involve joint procurement of Mistral and IRIS-T SLM air defense systems, two for 155mm ammunition, and one for armored vehicles.
The European Commission noted that most of the selected projects also include defense products intended for Ukraine, specifically air and missile defense systems and ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
