The export of ferroalloys increased 35 times at the beginning of 2025

In January-February 2025, Ukraine increased its ferroalloy exports by 35.5 times in physical terms compared to the same period last year, reaching 19,170 tons, up from 540 tons.

According to statistics published by the State Customs Service (SCS), in monetary terms, ferroalloy exports grew 11 times to $19.775 million.

The main export destinations were Algeria (32.16% of the monetary value), Poland (25.61%), and Italy (18.92%).

Additionally, in January-February 2025, Ukraine imported 7,962 tons of this product, a decrease of 53.5% compared to January-February 2024. In monetary terms, imports fell by 49.8%, to $14.210 million. The main import sources were Norway (32.25%), Kazakhstan (16.80%), and Armenia (7.62%).

As previously reported, the Pokrovsk Mining and Processing Plant (PGZK, formerly Ordzhonikidze GZK) and the Marganets GZK (both in Dnipropetrovsk region), part of the "Privat" group, ceased the extraction and processing of raw manganese ore in late October - early November 2023. Additionally, NFP and ZZF stopped producing ferroalloys. In the summer of 2024, the ferroalloy plants resumed production at minimal levels.

In 2024, Ukraine reduced ferroalloy exports by 4.45 times in physical terms compared to 2023, to 77,316 tons from 344,173 tons. In monetary terms, exports decreased by 3.4 times, to $88.631 million from $297.595 million. The main export destinations were Poland (27.40%), Turkey (21.53%), and Italy (19.82%).

Last year, Ukraine imported 82,259 tons of this product compared to 14,203 tons in 2023, an increase of 5.8 times. In monetary terms, imports grew 3.3 times to $140.752 million from $42.927 million. Imports mainly came from Poland (32.71%), Norway (19.55%), and Kazakhstan (13.90%).

The business of ZZF, NZF, Stakhanov ZF (currently under NKT), Pokrovsk, and Marganets GZK was previously organized by PrivatBank before their nationalization. The Nikopol Ferroalloy Plant is controlled by the EastOne group, created in the fall of 2007 as a result of restructuring the "Interpipe" group, as well as the "Privat" group.
