The FIVB imposed sanctions against the russian federation and the republic of belarus

Immediately after russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the National Volleyball Federation appealed to the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to impose sanctions against the aggressor. We received prompt response and support from the federations of the partner countries.

This was announced by the Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Huttsait on Facebook.

russian and belarusian teams (club and national) are suspended from all official competitions, including European Championships, Eurocups and the 2023 World Cup.

  • Teams are also prohibited from competing under neutral flags.
  • Officials and judges from the russian federation and the republic of belarus were also barred.
  • russia was stripped of the right to host this year’s men’s volleyball world championship.

The Minister thanked the volleyball community for supporting Ukraine.

We continue to work. Sanctions will be enough when the terrorist country cannot afford war. Until then, its representatives must not be in international sports arenas
