The startup Melt Water Club has developed a water purification technology based on freezing, which is fundamentally different from existing filtration methods.
"We didn’t invent anything new," says the founder, Andriy Osadchyi. "We simply looked at nature and combined natural processes with innovative technologies."
The essence of the technology is that pure water freezes under certain conditions, unlike contaminated water, allowing for effective purification without the use of filters or chemicals. This not only reduces maintenance costs but also minimizes the use of plastic materials, which is a problem for traditional purification systems.
"We've already earned around 0.5 million hryvnias," says the founder.
Currently, the founders are developing the first serial SMART device, which will be able to change color to match the interior of a room.
According to the company, each device helps reduce plastic waste and saves up to 24 million liters of water annually.
"We calculated that for every thousand devices sold, we save 15,000 kg of plastic," Osadchyi notes.
The water purification market is valued at over $65 billion, particularly due to filtration systems and water delivery systems. Melt Water aims to change this landscape by targeting an expansion market worth about $3 billion in countries such as Ukraine, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, as well as Asia and Singapore. However, the company is initially focused on two key segments: households and HoReCa (hotels, restaurants, cafes).
A key feature of the Melt Water technology is its ability to operate without constant maintenance, as all devices use the freezing-based purification method, eliminating the need for filters and costly servicing. Depending on customer needs, the company offers devices with varying water purification capacities — from 18 to 1,000 liters per day. The technological product is complemented by an app that allows real-time monitoring of water quality.
The device will be available on the market next September. The subscription for the device will cost $29 per month, or it can be purchased for prices starting from $1,390. The first production batch will consist of 1,000 units.
