On the night of January 31, Ukrainian forces attacked an oil refinery in Russia's Volgograd region. This refinery is among the ten largest in Russia.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the operation was carried out by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The strike targeted Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka LLC in the Volgograd region.
"This refinery ranks among the ten largest oil refineries in Russia by design capacity and is involved in supplying the Russian occupying army," the General Staff reported.
The Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka plant is one of the largest oil product manufacturers in Russia’s Southern Federal District, with a processing capacity of 14.8 million tons.
In 2024, the refinery was attacked twice by Ukrainian drones. On May 12, a drone strike caused a fire at the AVT-1 primary oil refining unit, which accounts for nearly 59% of the plant's capacity. As a result, operations at the unit were halted for several days.
Also, in Yaroslavl, local residents also reported explosions near the oil refinery, with roads to the facility being blocked.
The Yaroslavl refinery "Slavneft-YANOS" is the largest oil processing plant in Russia’s Northern region, with a refining capacity of over 15 million tons of crude oil per year.
