On Tuesday, December 19, the Italian government approved the decision to extend military assistance to Ukraine, and it will be continued until the end of 2024. Now, it requires confirmation by the parliament. The Italian Ministry of Defense reported this, as per ANSA.
If the document is supported, Italy will supply Kyiv with 'means, materials, and equipment to support military efforts against Russia,' as specified in the material.
The Italian Ministry of Defense also emphasized in its statement that the support would include weapons, generators, and 'everything necessary to support military operations to protect unarmed civilian populations.'
'I would like to emphasize that there are no political problems regarding support for Ukraine in the government majority, which respects the role and control of parliament. Italy has decided to be on the side of the freedom of nations and respect for international law to achieve a just and lasting peace,' said Guido Crosetto, the head of the defense department.
At the same time, the politician added that Russia's war against Ukraine continues 'in the conditions of an international scenario complicated by the crisis in the Middle East and the conflict between Hamas and Israel.' According to him, it requires the Italian government to choose to continue assistance to Ukraine, in line with Italy's international obligations 'taken in the EU and NATO.'
