The Ministry of Energy expressed hope that by autumn, Ukraine will have increased capacity to import more electricity. Svitlana Hrynychuk, Deputy Minister of Energy, shared this during the United News telethon, as reported by Ukrinform.
"We very much hope that by autumn we will have increased capacity so that we can import more electricity. This is a significant tool for balancing our energy system," she noted.
According to her, there are specific technical capacities for importing electricity.
"We are constantly working to increase this technical capability to receive electricity from neighboring countries. It is necessary to understand that any electricity production in other countries still depends on the technical capacity to transmit this electricity," explained Hrynychuk.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that the situation in Ukraine's energy system remains challenging, with a high deficit currently recorded.
"Despite all our efforts to keep the system stable, we are still forced to apply restrictions and schedules for power outages. We are using all available tools... It is an extremely difficult period for the energy sector and the energy system. The situation is tough for all of us right now," she said.
Responding to questions about winter preparedness, Hrynychuk mentioned that the Ministry of Energy is actively working with regions and assessing critical infrastructure facilities.
"We are preparing various solutions and ensuring elements of backup power for critical situations, so that all critical infrastructure remains operational under any circumstances," she concluded.
