The "Road of Life" installation, set up at the site of the destroyed Romaniv Bridge in Irpin, has been named the winner of the prestigious LIT Lighting Design Awards. This competition, held annually in Switzerland, is one of the most respected in the field of lighting design. The victory was announced by Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
According to Kravchenko, the installation is part of a large-scale project called "Kyiv Region. Places of Memory," which was launched this year. The project aims to create locations that will forever be remembered as symbols of resilience and unwavering strength by the residents of Kyiv Region, who endured the Russian occupation at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In total, the project’s initiators have created nine locations along the route, each marking the sites of the most tragic events.
“When we began implementing the 'Kyiv Region. Places of Memory' project this year, we had one main goal – to create something truly special, something that will remain in the memory forever. To help everyone feel and understand what the residents of Kyiv Region endured during the Russian occupation, and what we continue to go through,” Kravchenko said.
The "Road of Life" installation won in the Religious & Spiritual Site Lighting Design category, surpassing entries from designers worldwide. A special emphasis in the project is placed on the red threads that symbolize the scars of war. These threads connect the destroyed parts of the bridge, creating a stunning effect through the pulsating light. This element highlights the concept of healing the wounds of war, which, although they may heal, remain a part of history.
The LIT Lighting Design Awards, headquartered in Switzerland, annually honors the best projects in the field of lighting design.
