Counterintelligence and investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine detained another agent of Russian military intelligence (better known as GRU) in Kyiv. He turned out to be a Kyiv-based lawyer who was recruiting new agents for the Russian special service and also defended already exposed collaborators in court.
It was documented how the lawyer initially helped the Russians "select" a spotter for Russian fire on Ukraine, and after the informant's detention, defended him in court.
According to the investigation, the lawyer was recruited by a Russian GRU officer, Vitaliy Naumov, during a personal meeting on the territory of the aggressor state back in 2015.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, he not only sought new agents and defended them in court but also passed information to the Russian special service about SSU employees mentioned in the materials of criminal proceedings and exposed traitors, as well as copied and transmitted procedural documents to representatives of the Russian GRU.
For each completed task, the agent received monetary "rewards" from Naumov, transferred to him via anonymous financial transactions.
SSU officers documented the lawyer's crimes and detained him at his place of residence in Kyiv.
During searches, a mobile phone he used to communicate with the Russian forces and other agents was seized.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The issue of selecting a preventive measure for him is being resolved. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
