In the first nine months of 2024, Turkey increased its imports of steel billets from Ukraine by 2.3 times compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 129,400 tons, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute.
Overall, Turkish consumers imported 2.08 million tons of billets during these nine months, which is a 16% decrease compared to January-September 2023.
The largest suppliers of this product to Turkey from January to September include Russia (442,170 tons, down 61% year-on-year), Malaysia (382,700 tons, up 134% year-on-year), Indonesia (263,720 tons), Algeria (233,700 tons, down 42% year-on-year), and Ukraine.
In September, Turkish metallurgists imported 281,220 tons of billets, which is a 3% increase compared to August and 3.2 times higher year-on-year.
In September, Ukraine shipped 31,710 tons of billets to Turkey, which is 2.3 times more month-on-month and 3.2 times more compared to September 2023.
