The United Kingdom has expanded its sanctions list against Russia, imposing restrictions on 23 individuals and entities. Eight vessels have also been sanctioned, including several linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet”.
According to the British government, the restrictive measures target Kremlin disinformation networks, individuals involved in the arbitrary detention, torture and mistreatment of Ukrainian citizens, as well as those involved in the indoctrination and militarisation of Ukrainian children.
Among the individuals sanctioned are Russian presidential adviser and former head of the unrecognised South Ossetia Alan Gagloev, president of the self-proclaimed South Ossetia Marat Kambolov, chairman of the board of the Movement of the First Artur Orlov, FSB officer Yan Zanevsky, and others.
According to London, Orlov is involved in destabilising Ukraine and participates in a Russian government programme for the forced deportation and re-education of Ukrainian children.
The sanctions also cover three vessels from Russia’s “shadow fleet”, two vessels providing them with bunkering services, and three Russian-owned ice-class vessels.
“We are targeting both the revenues that help sustain Russia’s aggression and perpetrators of horrendous crimes against Ukrainian civilians, including children. The UK will not flinch in our support for Ukraine,” Minister for Europe Stuart Wood said.
