In Vilnius, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs have signed an Agreement on cooperation in the field of security and long-term support.

Latvia undertakes to help Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression as much as necessary. This year, the country will provide Ukraine with military support of about 112 million euros. In addition to that, Latvia will also provide defence aid equal to 0.25% of the country’s GDP each year.

The document confirms the readiness of the Republic of Latvia to help with recovery and reconstruction, protection of critical infrastructure, demining, unmanned technologies and cyber security.

The security treaty also clearly enshrines Latvia's support for Ukraine's future membership in the EU and NATO.

The document is valid for ten years and provides for the possibility of extending its validity by mutual agreement of the parties.

Ukraine has already concluded nine bilateral security treaties: with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, and Latvia. This document is signed to implement the Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine dated July 12, 2023. In total, 32 states joined it.
