Ukraine and Sweden signed a Memorandum of Understanding in London on the mutual recognition of seafarers' diplomas and certificates.
This was reported by Mykola Kravchuk, acting head of the Maritime Administration.
He recalled that ships under the Swedish flag strictly comply with international maritime safety standards and protect sailors' rights. Sweden, in particular, is included in the "white list" of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on port state control and, as of 2024, has a low detention rate — 5 out of 325 inspections.
“Together with Pernilla Wallin, Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Aviation and Maritime Transport of the Swedish Transport Agency, we also coordinated cooperation within the IMO framework during the participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the 110th session of the Maritime Safety Committee,” Kravchuk commented.
According to him, key cooperation issues included elections to the IMO Council, monitoring of Russian attacks, and the "shadow fleet."
The parties also discussed the evacuation of ships from the blocked ports of Kherson and Mykolaiv, as well as the role of the International Maritime Organization in this process.
