On the night of February 19, the Syzran oil refinery was attacked by Ukrainian drones, according to the governor of Russia’s Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.
"Emergency and operational services are working at the site. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties," the regional head wrote on Telegram.
According to Shot, at least two explosions were heard near the facility, followed by a fire.
The Syzran refinery belongs to Rosneft and has a design capacity of 8.9 million tons of fuel per year. It processes oil from Western Siberia, the Orenburg fields, and crude extracted in the Samara region. The plant produces motor fuel, aviation kerosene, bitumen, and other petroleum products. More than 2,200 people work at the facility.
The refinery was previously targeted by Ukrainian drones in March 2024, when a fire broke out at a petroleum processing unit. No casualties were reported at the time.
The Syzran oil refinery has temporarily suspended operations following a drone attack.
