Ukraine became a candidate for EU membership

The European Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced this on Twitter.

The European Council has just decided EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. A historic moment

Charles Michel

Michel congratulated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, and the peoples of Ukraine and Moldova, on this decision.

Recall that on February 24, Russia went on a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and on the 28th, Vladimir Zelensky signed an application for our country’s membership in the EU. The status of a candidate for joining the European Union also wanted to get Moldova and Georgia.

In June, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EC had recommended the European Council to grant our country the status of a candidate for the association of states.

On June 23, the European Parliament approved a resolution on granting the Ukrainian state and Moldova the status of candidates for joining the European Union.
