The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority has announced an international tender for the purchase of a new multifunctional vessel, which will clean up oil products from the water surface and perform other tasks.

According to the Danube Research Institute, the vessel is expected to serve Ukrainian ports such as Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaysk, significantly enhancing ecological safety and technical readiness of Ukraine’s Danube ports.

“The new vessel will be designed to collect oil products and debris from the water surface, function as a tug and righting vessel, and also participate in extinguishing fires on ships and port facilities,” the statement reads.

The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority plans to receive the vessel by December 31, 2026. Tender documents in the Prozorro system indicate that construction of the vessel may take place at Ukrainian enterprises.

The procurement is part of the international RELINC project (Restoration of Core Logistics Infrastructure and Network Connectivity), implemented with financial support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

The oil-collecting vessel is intended to operate in Ukrainian Danube ports, which are currently critical logistics hubs.

“In wartime conditions, ecological safety, stable port operations, and rapid response to emergencies have become as important as military or energy resilience,” notes the Danube Research Institute. “This step demonstrates a systematic approach to strengthening ecological and infrastructural resilience across the entire Danube macro-region,” the statement adds.

“Investing in a specialized fleet is not only about operational security but also about establishing new standards for cross-border cooperation, environmental responsibility, and adaptation to contemporary challenges,” the publication emphasizes
