Ukraine and Japan signed an agreement to provide the Government of Ukraine with a non-project grant for purchasing critical equipment for our hospitals. 300 million Japanese yen (over 2 million US dollars) has already been transferred to the account of the Ministry of Health, which will soon be used to purchase the necessary equipment and materials.

"Over 9 months of full-scale war, the world is rallying around Ukraine and its needs. The Russian occupiers not only deliberately destroy our medical facilities but also steal numerous equipment and consumables. Together with international partners, we are working to provide hospitals in the de-occupied territories with critically important equipment that will save the most valuable - the lives of our patients," said Deputy Minister of Health Oleksiy Yaremenko.

According to him, with a grant from the Government of Japan, Ukraine plans to improve medical institutions' material and technical base significantly. In particular, important equipment and related materials will be purchased, as well as medical training.

Since the beginning of the war, Japan has already provided powerful support to the medical system of Ukraine. In the spring, the Japanese company Fujifilm received ultraportable x-ray systems, thanks to which timely screening for tuberculosis is carried out in internally displaced Ukrainian patients. The equipment has improved access to modern diagnostics of lung diseases, including the detection of tuberculosis.

Also on the eve, in 2014 and 2015, the Government of Japan provided Ukraine with non-project-type grants to purchase special equipment for medical facilities and research institutions.

It will be recalled that in the spring, the Ministry of Health reported that Japan plans to provide funds for purchasing critical equipment for Ukrainian hospitals.
