Ukrainian Armed Forces and State Special Transport Service demining specialists will undergo training at the Regional Humanitarian Demining School under the Lebanese Mine Action Center, with funding provided by France.
This agreement was reached during a working visit of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense delegation to France.
"We are grateful to the Government of the French Republic and the French people for their support in our fight against the Russian aggressor. The composition, timeline, and level of training for Ukrainian demining specialists will be determined shortly," said Colonel Ruslan Berehulia, Head of the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety.
During the visit, Ukrainian representatives held meetings with Yves Marek, France's Special Envoy for Mine Action; Jean-Yves Siffreant, international technical expert on civil protection; and Emmanuel Aubry, Prefect of the Haut-Rhin Department.
The discussions addressed long-term risks of soil contamination by explosive remnants of war and chemical agents. The Ukrainian delegation shared their experience in demining contaminated areas and using various methodologies to assess pollution levels.
Special attention was given to fostering cooperation and knowledge exchange. Both sides discussed implementing systematic approaches to evaluating the quality of cleared land and using modern technologies to detect residual contamination with hazardous chemicals.
The French side reaffirmed its commitment to continue providing material and technical assistance to Ukraine and deepening cooperation in the field of mine action.
