Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval, during his visit to Egypt, met with Walid Gamaleldin, head of the State Administration of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), which includes six ports.
Together with Ukraine’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mykola Nahornyi, under the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelensky, Vitaliy Koval explored the possibility of creating a food hub in Egypt. They inspected port infrastructure and locations where Ukrainian businesses could set up operations—such as elevators, logistics centers, and warehouses.
"SCZone is Egypt’s key economic zone, offering favorable conditions for investors and industrial development. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy's task is for Ukrainian farmers not just to export raw materials, but to use special economic zones for processing. Ukrainian products should enter African markets with added value. This will allow us to enter the domestic market of Egypt and export finished products—flour, pasta, other food products—to countries with which Egypt has a free trade zone," emphasized Vitaliy Koval.
Specifically, SCZone allows:
- Creating production sites and industrial zones with tax and customs privileges.
- Using simplified registration and customs procedures.
- Gaining access to a large market—over 1.3 billion consumers in African and Arab countries.
"Ukraine is a strategic player in global food security, and cooperation with SCZone opens new prospects for our farmers and exporters. We are working to make Ukrainian products even more accessible in African markets!" highlighted the Minister.
