Ukrainian troops managed to change the Russian plans for an offensive on the Sumy direction.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a conversation with journalists.
"Today, over 67,000 Russian troops are stationed on the Kursk direction. They were completing this movement to launch an attack on the Sumy direction. We had to slightly alter their plans. Accordingly, there were steps in the Kursk region where it borders the Belgorod direction. Our warriors took the necessary steps, which stretched the Russian forces and prevented them from forming the offensive 'fist' they had planned," Zelensky noted.
He added that there have been many attacks in that area.
"The most attacks, on average, are happening in that direction. I had a meeting this morning with Syrskyi, Hnatov, and Drapaty. They gave me a detailed report on what is happening, where there are problems, and where there are successes. The steps regarding the Belgorod direction are correct, forcing the Russians to avoid forming a 'fist' on either the Kharkiv or Sumy direction. This is happening today. There are many attempts, daily. They are suffering losses," said the President.
According to him, the greatest successes of the Russian army were recorded in November of last year, with the fastest advancement.
"After that, the losses grew significantly, and the progress began to slow down. We believe this is the moment when everything started working fully on our side. Both Kursk and everything else worked better from our side, despite all the existing challenges. As for the Pokrovsk direction, we cannot say with certainty that everything is stabilized there yet. However, there is no advancement in the Pokrovsk area. We can say it's stabilized, but it’s still difficult," the head of state concluded.
