American intelligence reports that Russia is increasing its influence in Georgia and Armenia, as reported by Georgia Today

In its latest report, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) of the U.S. Department of Defense noted that Russia is almost certainly striving to return Georgia to its sphere of influence. Specifically, the report states that the Georgian government, led by the Georgian Dream party, has created conditions that facilitate the expansion of Russian influence in the country, particularly after the parliamentary elections in October of last year.

The report also emphasizes worsening ties between Moscow and Yerevan, declaring:

“Russo-Armenian relations deteriorated last year, as Armenia threatened withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization.” It adds that Russia has deployed “information operations to denigrate Armenian democracy and its more pro-Western leadership.”

According to the intelligence findings, Moscow is conducting information operations aimed at discrediting Armenian democracy and its more pro-Western government.

These conclusions from American intelligence reflect the United States’ broader concern over growing instability in the South Caucasus, amid Russia's attempts to control former Soviet republics through political manipulation and propaganda.
