Vasiliy Lomachenko defeated Richard Commey in New York and became WBO Intercontinental lightweight Champion

Power and speed, movement and footwork, defense and rapid-fire combinations. Vasiliy Lomachenko used them all in administering a boxing clinic to Richard Commey. This morning, December 12, one of the most important boxing matches of 2021 took place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

By unanimous decision, Lomachenko won the WBO Inter-Continental title. At the end of 12 rounds, the score was 117-110, 119-108, 119-108. From the first minutes of the fight, the Ukrainian seized the initiative and almost knocked Commy down with a series of heavy punches at the end of the second round. At first, the opponents studied each other and activated from 3-4 rounds. Lomachenko knocked out Commey in the 7th round, holding him at the ropes and mercilessly finishing him off, but Commey managed to “survive” and continue the fight.

Note that for Vasily Lomachenko, this was the second entry into the ring this year, after he lost to Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Now, he has 18 professional fights (16 wins and 2 losses).

It is worth noting that now all the titles are concentrated in the hands of the Australian boxer George Kambossos, who recently took them away from Teofimo Lopez. According to Lomachenko, he is keen to fight Kambosos in order to regain his belts.

We are proud for You, Loma!
