Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (2014-2015), Major General of the Reserve of the Security Service, military and public figure Viktor Yahun analyzes Russia's strategy towards Ukraine and other neighboring states. He also draws attention to the danger of Russia using nuclear weapons on the territory they illegally annexed. He shared these insights in an interview with Espresso.
"For him (Putin), Ukraine does not exist as a state, and, in particular, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, and other states that emerged on the territory of the former Soviet Union do not exist as states. Why he doesn't want the complete destruction of Ukraine is because he wants to control Kyiv and make the government puppets, as it was beneficial for the Soviet Union to have another voice at the UN. Now Belarus is doing it unilaterally, except for their lackeys, just a couple there. And here, supposedly, Ukraine, such a big European state, would support all this madness," explained Yahun.
The military emphasized that Russia wants to turn Ukraine into a landlocked state, completely under its control. At the same time, the Russians did everything so that the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in their worthless laws would be "theirs."
"Now they emphasize that military operations are taking place on the territory of Russia. According to their legislation, all the occupied lands are now theirs. Why did they include these territories? Not only to impose their paw on our territory but also to be able to use internal legislation in the territory of military operations, to use conscripts, to use tactical nuclear weapons because it is written in their laws that, for the protection of their sovereignty, they emphasize that we did not attack anyone, our military operations are taking place on the territory of the Russian Federation. This is the absurdity now, but they live and believe in it," concluded Viktor Yahun.
