The head of the regional military administration emphasized that due to the proximity to the frontline, the restoration of shipping in the region is currently impossible for safety reasons.
The ports of Mykolaiv region cannot resume operations until the end of hostilities because of their critical closeness to the frontline zone, said Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.
“There is a risk of attack not only from missiles but also from the simplest weapons, as was the case the last time we tried to evacuate civilian barges from there. They were fired upon with handheld weapons. Two people were killed,” Kim reported.
The main threat comes from the occupied Kinburn Spit, which is geographically very close to the region’s ports. This creates a constant danger both for ships and personnel.
The head of the administration stressed that any attempts to reactivate port infrastructure in the region directly depend on the security situation, which currently does not allow even basic operations with vessels.
Recently for the first time since the full-scale invasion began, the Russian forces used a hypersonic Kinzhal missile against the Mykolaiv port.
