The International Federation of Waterskiing and Wakeboarding named Roman Makarenkov, an athlete from Chernomorsk (Odessa region), as the best wakeboarder in the world in the MastersMen category.
Roman Makarenkov is a multiple champion of Ukraine and foreign competitions in wakeboarding and kitesurfing. Vice-champion of Ukraine in wakeboarding in WWA and IWWF categories. Certified wakeboarding and kitesurfing coach and national wakeboarding judge.
Makarenkov said that the federation awarded him 1,155 points, 100 more than the nearest competitor Dale Crosley from the UK.
Also, the athlete became the third in the wakeskate standings in the Open category, behind American Mike Weiss and Russian Stas Semenov.
In the summertime, Roman teaches classes at his wakeboarding school in his hometown, and in the winter he leaves to teach the skills of wave riding in Phuket (Thailand).
Wakeboarding is a water sport in which the rider, standing on a wakeboard (a short board with foot bindings), is towed behind a motorboat across its wake and especially up off the crest in order to perform aerial maneuvers.
